Frolic Updates!

from Turtle (Co-Director)

I am vibrating with excitement! Getting so close to go time that I’m counting the days to The Frolic 2024! Thirty-three, if you were wondering!

The final yurt, named Celestial, auction closes on July 15. It is the only yurt that has electricity! Closest to the center of the action too! Current bid as of 7/2/24 is $700.

We’ve sent more than 20 volunteers down to the Grove for our Stewardship Days. “You exceeded all our expectations!”, shared by one of the owners. The Quest for Paradise is just waiting for you, me, and a friend to make three to bring our camping fantasies to fruition. All the Team Leads are on full-forward motivation to complete planning and organize tasks before camp. You will not believe the meals! Pssst! You don't need to buy Bean-o to share!

BTW, have you asked your friends to attend camp?

Alex and trinity

Deafen Leaf and Laughing Willow

Evelyn Evey

Gloria Jackson-Nefertiti

Navi

TK Kasnick aka Turtle

Alex and trinity

Alex and trinity started their total power exchange (TPE) relationship over six years ago, building on their decades in BDSM and power exchange relationships. Alex (he/him) is a neurotypical, poly, creatively sadistic dominant; he’s married to a poly vanilla woman who chuckles supportively on hearing about his kink fun. trinity (she/her) is a neurospicy bi/pan poly masochistic submissive; her quest for novelty and making BDSM tools and toys are endless. After attending so many interesting classes and discussions at the past three Frolics, Alex and trinity are enthused to share and discuss their perspectives on TPE.

Class List:

  • Everything, Everywhere, All the Time: A Perspective on Total Power Exchange

  • Whip it into Shape: Create your own dragon’s tongue pocket whip!

Deafen Leaf and Laughing Willow

Deafen Leaf (they/she) is an erotic artist, researcher, and writer. They are currently working on video projects, and producing propaganda, as well as finding more and more outsides that can be turned into insides and vice versa. They're also impressively breedable, extremely flexible, needy, and submissive. In their free time, they're accused of being a brat, which they don't understand.

Laughing Willow (she/it) is a part-time puppy, a part-time android girl. She hasn't defragged her drive ever. When she's not battling runtime errors she's a transfem T4T verse switch with practical experience from the top, bottom, and the ill-defined squishy middle. She bites, sometimes for fun.

Class List:

  • A Leather History

  • Chastity 101

  • Fucking Trans Women

Evelyn Evey

Evelyn Evey (she/they) is a happily kinky, switchy, sadomasochistic, polyamorous, queer, gender nonconforming experience junkie who lives in Seattle, WA where she is actively involved with the Center for Sex Positive Culture and the local BDSM community. She was vice president of the board of directors for the Pan Eros Foundation (formerly known as the Foundation for Sex Positive Culture) and has had various roles with the Seattle Erotic Arts Festival. A voracious learner, she has studied Ayurveda, psychology, and acting, all of which have provided her insight and tools for helping others on their journeys towards finding balance and having fun with their kink.

Class List:

  • Kinky Psych 101

  • The Smell of Fear

  • Alchemy of Pain

Gloria Jackson-Nefertiti

Gloria Jackson-Nefertiti has been a panelist and workshop presenter since 2017, beginning with the very first workshop she ever created, "Transcending Shame." For example, when she began researching the topic of shame, she learned that shame lives in SECRECY. Additionally, Gloria is late-diagnosed autistic, with ADHD, PTSD, depression/anxiety, and TBI. She is also an artists' model and has served as a "muse" for artists in drawing, painting, and sculpture classes and groups since the mid-1990s. Gloria is currently hard at work on her memoir entitled, "A Different Drum: A Black, Autistic, Polyamorous, Mentally Ill, Former Fundamentalist Christian/Cult Member and Breast Cancer Survivor WHO JUST WANTS TO FIT IN." You can find Gloria on Facebook as Gloria Jackson-Nefertiti, and on her website, "Not Gloria Jean" (NotGloriaJean.net). She lives in Seattle, WA.

Navi

Greetings! My name is Navi (He/They). I have been actively engaged in the BDSM/ kink scene for the past five years. I am most often involved in the ageplay, pet play, tickling, and leather communities. I am a member of ONYX NW which is a leather organization for queer men of color. I have taken on many volunteer roles throughout my time in the community including leading tastings, demonstrations, dungeon monitoring, event planning, setup/strike, registration, and more!

Class List:

  • Intro to Age Play

  • Dark Age Play

TK Kasnick aka Turtle

TK Kasnick began presenting at the early age of 9 through their local 4-H program. Their education in college workshops, conferences, and classes in event planning/implementation, organizing, and communication has created a lifelong passion for helping people to communicate and interact more completely with each other. TK has experienced significant health issues all of their life but doesn't allow them to define them. In 1997, their body crashed allowing genetic Fibromyalgia to raise its formidable head accompanied by Chronic Fatigue Immunodeficiency Disorder, and Multiple Chemical Sensitivity. These have all since been reclassified as a cluster diagnosis of Central Sensitization Syndrome. TK was nearly completely bedridden in 1997 for many years. They believe in living proactively. They began attending workshops and doing research to better understand the challenges inherent to a life-altering illness. Through a team approach to health care, meditation, and a life lived in balance and moderation, TK Kasnick now leads a full and satisfying life.

Class List:

  • Finding Freedom from Fear

  • Planning for Trauma Response

Pride Parade Thank You!

Ten members met virtually to design the float. We begged and borrowed what we could and treasure hunted the best prices for the bits and bobs to decorate the float. We met at Kinky Acres, à la our building committee lead/board member, to build it. Our president designed 25th Anniversary banners. Our HR director brought us hand fans to distribute among adults. One very long-time member loaned us a trailer, another loaned us their truck, and drove the float trailer carefully at less than 2mph down the parade route when we finally started moving.

Our builders arrived at 11 a.m. to assemble and decorate our float, which was simultaneously held together with screws and zip ties. One amazingly astute member brought a large cooler full of ice, water, and Gatorade for everyone! Another functioned as “marchers lead” to make sure everyone arrived safely and was assigned a spot. We stepped off at 1:40 p.m. leading off the kinky contingents, followed by the Leather community, Sea-PAH, and the largest group of furries I've ever had the pleasure to witness outside a convention. By some ironic turn of queerness, following all of us were the churches!

Members in totally turned-out outfits carried the long front banner and others guarded each tire against potential accidents as required by Seattle Pride. One board member rode on the float, handing out earplugs for those people our members saw needed them.

Crystal Fire Entertainment loaned us DJ Ren1 and their pounding sound system. We saw a golf cart go by carrying five event staff bouncing so hard from their dancing that it's a surprise they didn't roll it. We handed out fan after fan as we danced our way down 4th Ave, waving to watchers as they cheered and joined us by dancing! Previous CSPC members screamed and ran out to hug everyone they knew! Other contingents danced with us. We really had chosen the best music! But then, who sits still for Prince? Let's go crazy!

As we wound down to turn onto Denny way, there in the crowd stood our Events Director, waving hello and beaming the biggest smile!

Normally, marchers would run off to join the festivities. Not us! The entire crew of marchers stayed to help strike the float for travel back to Kinky Acres who had graciously been storing it for us as it was built. Then, the marchers hugged and left, some heading back into the festival for more volunteering at our CSPC table!

Consent Corner 24.10

by Emma Atkinson

Hello, loveliest of lovelies! How about if we keep those great Pride feelings going all year long? And, why stop at 2024? Just saying…

We’ve been considering a situation in which someone to whom you’ve given consent says that you’re being too emotional. You’ve done a self-check and all of your systems seem to be functioning well. So, if it’s not you — then what?

Please remember that you always have the right to ask for what you want. You might want some time to mull things over. You might want to phone a friend or do some further research. You might get what you ask for and you might not. And, that’s not necessarily the main reason to ask.

Sometimes it’s helpful to ask a question even if you think you already know the answer. Actually, that could be the perfect time to ask that question. You can learn a lot by paying attention to the answer you get. It’s a trope in many mystery stories: ask and then listen carefully. And then, please consider how your consent is affected by the answers you get.

Homework: It’s July — get out there and enjoy it! Then, please tell us all about it at: info@thecspc.org

“Be excellent to each other.” —Bill and Ted

“Be sexcellent to each other.” —Emma

Other Community Events to Enjoy!

The CSPC throws amazing parties and hosts many important discussions on various topics. But luckily, we live in a place where there are many more options to dive into sex- and body-positive culture. The list below is just a sampling of some great events coming up in the next month.

We include non-CSPC events in every issue. If you have an event suggestion, please email Marissa at newsletter@thecspc.org and it might make it into our next issue!

May 30–August 8

Consent Academy: Consent and Leadership Summer Series ($300+ | online)

Consent and Leadership is a unique opportunity for leaders to deepen their understanding of consent, power, trauma, and accountability. It consists of 8 workshops and one optional lab, each exploring the knowledge, skills, and practices anyone who finds themselves in a position of influence or authority needs in order to foster a consensual space.

July 4–7

Woodwinked at the Whump & Hump campout ($20–$50+ | in person)

You are most cordially invited to Temptr’s private party out at Kinky Acres! Everyone must be pre-approved. RSVP instructions on FetLife.

July 7–12

The Goodenough Community: 2024 Summer Gathering - Consent: The Heart of Relationships and Communities ($690+ | in person)

The Goodenough Summer Gatherings are a rich mix of learning, practice, and skill-building that happen within a container of friendship and good will. For over 55 years, we have developed and refined our method of offering these life-changing experiences to ourselves and the wider world. Expert teaching sessions are enlivened by an atmosphere of play and exploration. These lessons are further explored in small group sessions where participants can feel safe and respectfully held as they learn to manage their inner landscape of feelings in ways that promote greater understanding and well-being.

July 10

Papaya Project: Sex Trivia ($10–$20 | in person)

This monthly event is the best way to learn about and celebrate pleasure, queerness, and the science of sex! Trivia questions cover a wide variety of sex and sexuality-related topics, so get ready to challenge yourself, learn something new, and have a good time. A portion of each ticket will be donated to Camp Ten Trees, a nonprofit residential camp in Washington State for youth of LGBTQ and nontraditional families, LGBTQ youth, and their allies.

July 15 (every Monday through August)

Emerald City Trapeze Arts - Beginner Shibari ($25 | in person)

In this foundational session, students will learn fundamental ties and techniques to begin their rope journey. Though fundamental, these techniques can be combined in uncountable ways to produce elaborate shapes and scenarios. Besides learning technical skills, we will focus on rope bondage as a movement and acrobatic art, with emphasis on flow, aesthetics, and partner connection.
