Parties from the Past: CSPC FemDom History

By Teeebone

Earlier this year, the Femme Dominion party champions announced that the March event would be the last time this party was put on by the CSPC at Gallery Erato. The fans of this party were unhappy about this, and so the task has begun of putting together another team and a rebranding of a FemDom (Femme Dominant) event for the Center. This may take some time, but if the past is any indication, rest assured the CSPC will come up with a new FemDom-themed party in the future.

From my research into the past, there has always been some kind of event for this particular audience, though information from the early days (1999–2002) tends to be sparse. The first confirmed mention comes from a monthly schedule in July 2002, though it is a single-gender social/discussion group followed by a party: The Women-Only Salon and the Women-Only Play Party. I know, pretty generic sounding and not FemDom oriented, but I would guess that some FemDom activity could have taken place? The event itself was likely part of the first generation of parties that were formed within the first year of the Center’s inception.

It's likely that there were a few gatherings off-site during the early half of the Center’s existence. But as for a truly regularly scheduled CSPC FemDom event, the first one was a monthly event that came to be known as The Women’s Sovereign Tea. It was a monthly high-protocol event held on the second Sunday of the month from 1–5pm. Starting in September 2008, this was a party that was very service oriented, involved much pampering, and of course, tea. Oh, and then there were the menus, which featured different items each month! Here’s what was served in July of 2014:

Opening Beverage: Cucumber Lime Spritzer (Cucumber juice, lime juice, and seltzer water)

1st Course:

Potato Leek Soup with Crumbled Bacon and Parsley Garnish (GF, DF) (Vegan option available) (Potatoes, leeks, salt, and pepper)

Herb Salad with Apple Tarragon Vinaigrette (Vegan, GF, DF) (Apple Tarragon Vinaigrette: apple sauce, apple cider vinegar, tarragon, grape seed oil)

2nd Course:

Cucumber and Summer Sausage Sandwiches with Sun-dried Tomato Aioli (DF) (GF, Vegan options available) (Aioli: mayonnaise, sun-dried tomatoes, garlic, fresh rosemary, lemon zest, salt, ground pepper) (Vegan option will not have mayonnaise and will substitute portobello mushrooms for the summer sausage.)

Fruit Medley (Vegan, GF, DF)

3rd Course:

Strawberries with Mascarpone and Agave Nectar (GF, Vegan) (DF option available) (Strawberries topped with a blend of marscapone cheese and agave nectar.) (DF option will be strawberries drizzled with agave nectar.)

Pretty nice, huh? It’s no surprise this party was sold out every month! The team kept the quality high and classy, and the event continued even after August 2016, the last time it could be held at the old site of the Center. In September, The Women’s Sovereign Tea carried on (at a private location) while the CSPC looked for a new home. But after October that year, the party went on hiatus, although there were a number of other “Teas” being held elsewhere.

On July 8, 2018, the event returned, reformed and with a new name: The Femme Sovereign Tea, held in the Gallery Erato, though it would be on an irregular schedule until January 2020. After that, the COVID pandemic canceled all parties and events for the duration.

The other FemDom event from the old days was a BDSM-focused play party called Women on Top. Starting in 2011, this quarterly party was scheduled on the fourth Fridays of April, July, October, and January and its target audience faithfully attended it with a flourish. This event had a successful run up until the Center closed in September 2016. There was a long break after that; a few years passed in which other FemDom events happened elsewhere, the ensuing pandemic happening to complicate matters and then . . . Finally, a new team of champions arrived to give us. . .

Femme Dominion! A new FemDom play party for the CSPC. Scheduled bi-monthly (as in once every two months), this latest incarnation started with a trial edition in December 2021 and then got scheduled for odd-numbered months in 2022. Once again, the fans of this kind of party kept the enthusiasm up and the attendance high. Sadly though, earlier this year in March, the team announced that this would be the last Femme Dominion event. Does this mean the party is over? Nope.

Rumors abound that some fans have been talking and plans are being made. A team will eventually come together—champions and some volunteers will create the core group of people needed to make the party happen all over again. New name. New look. Some new players. Some old players. And of course, the call for volunteers to work the party, folks who are into the FemDom scene.

Personal Reflections on The Frolic 2022

By Sam

For those of you who know me well, this will come as no surprise, but going into The Frolic last summer I was equal parts anxious and excited. I can’t tell you the number of times I almost said, “Never mind, I’m staying home,” because I was so nervous.

I’ve always loved camping, and I’m a firm believer that life’s best moments take place sitting around a bonfire. I had gotten to know some people, but this was only a couple of months into my time at the CSPC. The friendships I was forging hadn’t progressed all that far beyond the “Hey, how’s it going?” stage of development. What was I going to talk to these people about for several days in a row?!? I was a ball of nerves.

In spite of my nervousness, from the moment I showed up—red security shirt in hand—I knew I was in the right place. Very little of what I experienced at The Frolic was what I expected, but it was exactly what I needed.

There were moments of deep tenderness.

  • A group shower that may have been the first time in my life where I was naked with others but without an ounce of self consciousness.

  • Playing with the hair of someone I had admired and was getting to know in a much deeper way.

  • Holding a new friend’s hand during a painful but healing scene where she got to reclaim a part of herself and where I felt like I was truly part of a community.

  • Falling deeper in love with a partner in the way that seems to only happen when drifting off to sleep together under the stars.

These are moments I could never have created on my own, but that I’m so grateful I got to share.

Before you go and accuse me of being overly sentimental, I’ll say that there was no shortage of silliness and shenanigans.

Have you ever tried a lube slip-n-slide? Neither had I. Strip Uno? It still needs some workshopping, but there’s a concept there. The attempts at diversion and distraction involved in a round of the kinky dating game were, frankly, astounding.

There were moments around the campfire long after most people had gone to bed where I laughed so hard I could barely catch my breath.

What I found at The Frolic was nothing short of magical. A sense of community emerged that was so far beyond what I could have imagined. As someone new to the worlds of kink, sex-positivity, and consensual nonmonogamy, I found myself surrounded by people who were open to discussion, who answered my questions thoughtfully and asked questions that made me think even more, and who were willing to hold space for me to think, challenge, and explore at my own pace.

I can’t promise that any of these things will happen for you at The Frolic. What I can promise is that if you’re willing to show up, be vulnerable, and open yourself up to community, meaningful things will happen.

Even after two rounds of The Frolic last summer, I’m still feeling that blend of anxiousness and excitement. I have no idea what gifts The Frolic has in store for me this year, but I can’t wait to see, and I sincerely hope you’ll join me.

She is also a breast cancer survivor. In fact, it was the cancer diagnosis in 2013 that helped her realize how short life is; this served as the catalyst that caused her to come out as sex-positive, bisexual, and polyamorous. Most importantly, it helped her to finally set boundaries and refuse to accept shabby treatment (especially shaming) from others. She is very much interested in helping others identify shame, recognize shaming behavior, and finally, to transcend shame. She lives in Seattle, WA.

Frolic Friendship Poem

1. If you go chasing rabbits and

you know you are going to fall

2. Lean on me, when you aren’t strong

3. Do you need anybody? I need somebody to love.

4. Come with me into the trees

We’ll lay on the grass and let the hours pass

5. You want a revelation, some kind of resolution

You want a revelation

6. When the lights go out, and you throw yourself about

In the darkness where you learn to see

When the lights go out, don’t you ever doubt

The light that we can really be

7. A true true friend helps a friend in need

8. Go forth and have no fear

Come close and lend an ear

9. I can’t help myself, no no, caught up in the middle of it

10. We can be who we are

You taught me something, yeah, freedom is ours

11. Let it be unity, let it be community

For refugees like you and me

12. Sing with me, sing for the year

Sing or the laughter, sing for the tears

Sing with me, if it’s just for today.

May I?: Sense and Sensuality

Do you want to explore allowing others into your personal space? Are you interested in sharing energy with another person? Have you ever wanted to experience emotional or physical intimacy without the pressure of romance or sex? Are you demisexual and a bond is needed before sexual activity is even possible? Do you enjoy the softer side of kink? Then this is the event that you’ve been looking for!

Sense & Sensuality provides a relaxed, social & non-escalatory environment for people to make connections that could grow into something more with prompts to help members initiate connections and gentle play.

For the first half of the event, the full venue is “Lights On” for platonic intimacy with no nudity. During this time, on the main level we'll host an interactive prompt and on the lower level you are encouraged to engage in any platonic play.

May Intimacy Prompt: Non-Escalatory Cuddles!

Platonic touch-based intimacy is an underserved need for many folx and the CSPC wants to facilitate a sexually non-escalatory environment for our community. We’ll have a short Cuddle workshop following the SaS Confab that will feature 3 cuddle positions from the book “The Cuddle Sutra” by Rob Grader. Then the rest of the evening is opened for your cuddling pleasure! Cuddle one-on-one or with a cuddle puddle!

Please note that the noise volume of music and conversation is expected to be low during our cuddle focused events so as to create a calm and meditative environment.

For the second half of the event at 9:00 p.m., the main level is open to any platonic play while the lower level of the venue transitions into “Lights Off” for sensual and sexual intimacy. This is the only part of the event that permits light-impact play.

Let’s get cuddle-wonderful!Tickets are available here. Not yet a member of the CSPC? New member tickets are available here! New member tickets include new member orientation during the hour immediately preceding the party (6:00-7:00 p.m.), your first month’s membership fee, and entry to the party.

Myself! Turns Sweet 16

On May 21, Myself! is turning 16! Cum help us celebrate getting off together like the horny 16-year-old party we are! We’d love to see old friends and new. Cupcakes too! Any sort of dress up clothes and accessories are encouraged. Will you play dress up with us?

  • Open mic for Myself! stories and dreams!

  • Party games!

  • Spanking gauntlet!

  • Sign our journal!

YOU are what makes Myself! what it is!  The regular event will continue downstairs during the festivities--birthday stuff will happen 7:00-8:00 p.m. upstairs. Circle at 6:30 p.m. is required for folx new to the Myself! Party.

A word from Myself!’s hosts:

Celia:

I’m always thrilled to see folks that have been coming since the days of the bed with silks in the Raw Space and folks who seemed way too young back then. I love Myself! because I am dedicated to and inspired by the notion that we can create a space where many people fulfill their separate fantasies together. I love seeing the wide eyes when someone has never seen sex in person before. Seeing sex, in all of its forms, helps us realize that we are all human, that bodies are funny, and that we have more things in common than our differences. I hope you will come and help us celebrate.

Mark:

It’s hard to believe that our unique gathering is celebrating 16 years of bringing people together.  Just as if it were a person, Myself! has matured and grown from how it began. We have learned more about being responsible to ourselves and the people around us. We have worked to be more open and accepting of others who may not be like us, but who have every right to exist and express themselves in a myriad of ways. Across all of these years, all of these people have come together to share a space that celebrates them getting off either with others or solo. That solo play is what has really made this party stand out from all others, not just at the CSPC but in the region.

Join us for the celebration! Tickets are available here. Not yet a member of the CSPC? New member tickets are available here! New member tickets include new member orientation during the hour immediately preceding the party (5:30-6:30 p.m.), your first month’s membership fee, and entry to the party.
